How to read a gold (XAUUSD) chart

Reading a XAUUSD chart comes down to three things: understanding the candles, choosing the right timeframe, and finding the levels where price tends to react. Once you can do that, the chart tells a story instead of looking like noise.

Start with the candles

Each candle shows four prices for a period of time: the open, high, low and close. A green candle closed higher than it opened; a red candle closed lower. The thin wicks show how far price stretched before pulling back. Long wicks often mark rejection, where price tried a level and failed.

Pick a timeframe

The timeframe sets how much time each candle covers. On our chart you can switch M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4 and D1. Higher timeframes (H4, D1) show the bigger trend and the strongest levels; lower timeframes (M5, M15) show detail for timing. A common approach is to read direction on H4 and refine entries on M15.

Find support and resistance

Support is a level where price has bounced up before; resistance is where it has been pushed down. These are the lines the market remembers. Our chart marks them automatically and scores each one by how reliably price has reacted there. Learn more in support and resistance on XAUUSD.

Add smart-money zones

Beyond plain levels, institutions leave footprints: order blocks and supply and demand zones. These are areas where large orders were placed, and price often returns to them. Our chart draws them for you and confirms them on candle close so they do not repaint.

Practise on a live chart

The fastest way to learn is to watch it live. Open the free XAUUSD live chart, switch timeframes, and toggle the zones on and off until you can see how price respects them.
