How XAUUSDLiveChart.com Sources Gold Market Data
The XAU/USD price on this site is a real-time spot-gold reference quote from a third-party market data feed, relayed through our own server and shown in UTC. It is indicative and can differ slightly from any single broker, because spot gold trades over the counter with no single global price.
Instrument
We track XAU/USD, the price of one troy ounce of spot gold quoted in US dollars. This is the over-the-counter spot market, not a single futures contract. Background is in our guides.
Price feed
Live quotes (price, bid, ask and spread) come from a third-party market data feed. Your browser requests the price from our own server, so it never connects to the data vendor directly. Quotes refresh roughly every one to two seconds. A status indicator reads LIVE when the feed is fresh and DELAYED when the last update is older than about twenty seconds.
Timezone and timestamp
Prices and the on-page update time are shown in UTC. The homepage displays the last update time so you can see how fresh the quote is.
Why prices differ between brokers
Spot gold has no central exchange, so every broker builds its own quote from its own liquidity providers and adds a spread. Two feeds can show slightly different prices and slightly different candle wicks for the same moment. Our numbers are a consistent reference, not the exact fill price at your broker.
Candles, volume and analysis
Candles are built from the same price feed. Where volume is shown it is tick volume (the number of price updates in a period), not centralized global spot-gold volume, which does not exist for an over-the-counter market. All chart overlays (support and resistance, supply and demand, order blocks, market structure and liquidity) are calculated automatically from price action on closed bars. They are not sourced from any exchange order book or proprietary institutional order flow. How each is computed is documented in our methodology.
Economic calendar
The economic calendar is sourced from ForexFactory (via the faireconomy.media feed), filtered to United States (USD) releases and shown in your local time. Any HOT or COOL lean and accuracy figure shown next to an event comes from a separate walk-forward validated model, documented in our methodology.
