GOLD ANALYSIS

Participation is not direction

Every volume tool ultimately measures one thing: how much business got done. Which side initiated that business is a separate question requiring separate data, and most gold feeds simply do not carry it. Half the volume folklore in circulation comes from blurring this line, reading attendance figures as if they were votes. Keeping the two questions apart is the entire skill of honest volume analysis.

01

What participation answers

Activity data, tick counts, candle volume, percentile comparisons, answers: is anyone here? A breakout on dead participation is a claim nobody co-signed; a rejection wick on a participation spike had real opposition behind it. These reads need no directional attribution at all, which is why they are robust even on spot gold's tick volume.

02

Why direction needs different data

Splitting volume into buying and selling requires knowing each trade's aggressor, who crossed the spread, which only classified tape data records. Candle colour cannot substitute: every trade has both a buyer and a seller, and a green candle's volume was not buyers, it was transactions that net-lifted price. Tools claiming buyer percentages from OHLCV are manufacturing data they do not have.

03

The division of labour

The working hierarchy: use participation to grade conviction behind price events, price structure to determine direction, and genuine classified tape, where available and labelled, as directional corroboration. Our chart's flow tools follow exactly this split, activity percentiles on spot data, real delta only from real tape, because the alternative is confident fiction.

Q

FAQ

Can high volume confirm a breakout?

It confirms the breakout was attended, which matters: unattended breaks fail disproportionately. Direction still comes from price accepting beyond the level.

Is green-candle volume buying volume?

No. Every trade has both sides; the candle's colour says price net-rose during it, not that volume was buyers.

Where does real buy-sell data exist for gold?

On centralised venues with classified tape: futures and related24-hour markets. Spot feeds carry activity only, and honest tools say so.
