Effort versus result

Strip away the indicator zoo and volume analysis reduces to one comparison, old as tape reading: effort versus result. Effort is participation, how much business a candle contains. Result is what price accomplished, travel, body, close quality, structure affected. The four combinations of high and low on each axis generate every honest volume read there is, and the framework runs on any market, any timeframe, any data quality.

EFFORT VERSUS RESULT

01

The four quadrants

High effort, high result: initiative, one side in control and paying for progress, continuation-flavoured. High effort, low result: absorption or exhaustion, someone is eating the aggression, potential-turn-flavoured, pending confirmation. Low effort, high result: thin-air travel, price moving through vacuum, impressive-looking and fragile, the anatomy of many failed breakouts. Low effort, low result: apathy, the market between engagements, information-free by design.

02

Measuring each axis

Effort: activity versus its own recent distribution, percentiles, not absolutes, so the read survives regime changes. Result: range in ATR terms, body share, close location, and whether any structure broke, the anatomy from candle basics. Both axes are measurable from ordinary chart data, which is why the framework needs no exotic feed to run honestly.

03

The discipline

Two rules keep it honest. Quadrant reads are context, never triggers: high-effort-low-result flags a candidate that structure must confirm, per the absorption protocol. And location weights everything: the same quadrant at a weekly level versus mid-range is a different fact. Effort-result plus location plus structure is the complete sentence; any piece alone is a fragment.

Q

FAQ

Which quadrant matters most?

High effort with low result, because it flags the potential turns. But its value depends entirely on confirmation and location; it is a question, not an answer.

Do I need special data for this framework?

No. Activity percentiles and candle anatomy run on standard chart data. Better data refines it; the logic is data-agnostic.

Why do thin-air rallies fail so often?

Low-effort travel means few participants underwrote the move; the first real opposition meets no committed defence.
