Why a checklist beats gut feel
Under pressure, the brain rationalises. A setup that fails half your rules starts to look fine when you are bored, on tilt, or afraid of missing out. A written checklist takes the decision out of the moment and puts it on paper, where emotion cannot bend it.
The goal is not more trades, it is better ones. A checklist is a filter, and its main job is to make you say no far more often than you say yes.
Boxes 1 to 4: the setup
1. HTF bias aligned. The daily or four-hour trend agrees with your trade direction. 2. Liquidity swept. A clear pool (equal highs or lows, a prior high or low) has been taken before your entry. 3. Displacement break. A strong, full-bodied candle broke structure, not a weak wick. 4. Clean retest. Price returned to the level or gap you plan to trade.
These four establish that you are in the right place, in the right direction, after the market has shown its hand.
Boxes 5 to 8: the trigger and the risk
5. Rejection confirmation. A wick or engulfing candle at the retest actually triggers the entry. 6. Clear TP target. The next liquidity pool or structure level is visible before you enter. 7. Risk-to-reward at least 1:2. The target is far enough to justify the stop. 8. Not in chop. Price has direction, not a messy, overlapping range.
These four make sure the trade is actually executable, with a defined reward and a market that is trending rather than grinding sideways.
How to use it: all eight or skip
The rule is simple and strict: all eight boxes, or no trade. Seven out of eight is not an A+ setup, it is a B setup dressed up as one, and B setups are where consistency goes to die. When one box fails, you do not negotiate, you wait for the next opportunity.
This sounds rigid because it is meant to be. The discipline is the edge. Anyone can find a setup; the professional is the one who passes on the almost-good ones.
Quality over quantity
A trader taking two A+ setups a week will usually outperform one taking ten average setups a day. Fewer trades mean lower costs, clearer focus, and far less emotional wear. Each trade also gets the attention it deserves, from entry to management to exit.
